George has Diamond Blackfan Aneamia. An inherited bone marrow failure syndrome.
George was diagnosed at under 6 weeks old. He had regular transfusions (every 3 weeks) until 5 months old when he started on steroids. He responded well and by the age of 3 was on a very low maintenance dose.
George was later diagnosed at the age of 10 of being on the Autistic spectrum. He was also diagnosed with skeletal abnormalities, all associated with DBA ( Sprengal abnormality, C2, C3 fusion, asymmetrical rib cage, bilateral cervical ribs and spina bifida occulta x2) As well as severe immunity problems due to low B cells and NK cells. But he carried on...
December 2014 he competed National League trampolining and got through to the finals. In December 2014 he came third, bronze for his level and age in National Trampolining.
February 2015 we were told the devastating news Georges cellularity of the bone marrow has dropped from 30-40% a year ago to 10-15%.
It was also discovered that he had hhv6 virus in his bone marrow.
It was agreed to treat the virus with intensive 2 week treatment immediately.
